For Singapore-based tech firm Xenith, a distributed setup allowed them to hire top talent accross Indonesia and Singapore, but distributing one team over 2 sites
To bridge the geographic divide, Xenith partnered with Offsite Thailand to design a 5-day corporate retreat in Northern Thailand.
The core objective was clear:

Why Chiang Mai Was the Ideal Destination
While tropical beach destinations like Phuket or Koh Samui are common corporate picks, Chiang Mai offered something far better suited to Xenith’s active, curious team. It has cool mountain air, rich Northern Thai culture, world-class food, and a landscape which is made for outdoor group challenges.
For the primary retreat hub, Offsite Thailand selected Horizon Village & Resort. Horizon is nestled among 115 acres of botanical gardens on the green outskirts of Doi Saket, Chiang Mai. Horizon Village gave the group open outdoor spaces, excellent private meeting facilities, and easy access to the region’s best activity spots. It perfectly allowed 50 engineers to step straight out of high-impact workshops and relax in quiet, green surroundings.

Organizing a seamless corporate retreat for 50 international guests requires deep logistical preparation long before anyone steps off a plane. Offsite Thailand worked side-by-side with Xenith’s event leads over an eight-week planning sprint to curate a customized experience.

Corporate retreats often default to generic merchandise. Offsite Thailand sourced premium, breathable, non-iron Thai cotton t-shirts tailored to Xenith’s colour scheme. To make sure every team member felt completely comfortable during warm outdoor activities, specialized long-sleeve options were sourced for hijab-wearing attendees.

3. Smart, Stress-Free Offsite Thailand Logistics
To keep 50 software developers on track without cluttering their phones with messy PDFs or paper schedules (which get lost), each participant received a customized welcome lanyard with a digital QR code. Scanning the code gave attendees instant access to an interactive mobile schedule showing upcoming meeting points, dress codes, and real-time updates across the week.
Retreat Story: 5 Days of Chiang Mai Culture, Team Strategy, and Adventure
Rather than sticking to a rigid conference schedule, the retreat was designed around distinct daily themes that balanced active team-building, cultural discovery, alignment, and pure celebration (and fun!).
Day 1: Welcome to Thailand
The retreat began as flight waves from Singapore and Indonesia landed at Chiang Mai International Airport. Private vans met the teams at arrivals and brought them straight to a relaxed local restaurant for their first introductory shared lunch in Thailand, which of course featured some delicious deserts such as mango sticky rice.
After lunch, the first group relaxed around the botanical gardens after their early flight, awaiting the second group’s arrival and the official offsite kick-off.
As the second team from Singapore arrived and evening fell over the mountains, the whole engineering team were brought together with a traditional Khan Tok welcome dinner. Seated family-style around low wooden tables, the team sampled authentic Northern Thai dishes while enjoying traditional Lanna musical and dance performances, setting a warm, celebratory tone for the entire trip.
Day 2: Sweat, Strategy & Alignment
The second day kicked off with an energetic start. Leaving standard hotel icebreakers behind, the entire team laced up their trainers and headed to a renowned local Muay Thai gym for a private boxing clinic.
Guided by professional Thai fighters, 50 engineers wrapped up their hands and worked through cardio warm-ups, pad drills, and basic kickboxing technique. The session was an instant hit:
- Developers laughed through challenging coordination drills.
- Team leads worked up a sweat alongside junior staff.
- Shared physical exertion broke down awkwardness far faster than any indoor seminar could.
Team-building Exercises
After refueling with a traditional Thai lunch, the group gathered on the resort’s private lawns for a series of custom team-building games. Designed to test communication, spatial reasoning, and strategic thinking under pressure, smaller teams competed in fun relay challenges under the shade of massive rain trees.
Day 3: Old City Exploration, Lanna Crafts & Night Markets
Day three focused on team problem-solving, local culture, and exploring Chiang Mai’s vibrant streets.
The Old City Discovery Challenge
In the morning, the group headed into Chiang Mai’s historic center for an interactive photo rally. Divided into small, cross-functional teams, engineers navigated through iconic landmarks including Tha Phae Gate, Wat Chedi Luang, and ancient city monuments. Teams completed riddle challenges, snapped creative group photos, and interacted with local craftsmen along the way.
Artisan Crafts & Traditional Dress
After a relaxed lunch at a garden café, the group visited an artisan village tucked away near the mountains, followed by an afternoon of hands-on Lanna cultural crafts.
Engineers tried on traditional Thai silk attire for group photos against classic teak architecture and spent time learning to hand-craft floating Kratongs out of banana leaves and fresh flowers,a quiet, creative activity that gave colleagues plenty of time for easy, relaxed conversation.
Ping River Dining & Night Bazaar
The evening started with a sit-down dinner at a scenic riverside restaurant along the Ping River. Afterward, the group explored the famous Chiang Mai Night Bazaar enjoying the lively night market atmosphere.
Day 4: Botanical Rallies, Water Park Rallies & The Gala Finale
The final full day delivered a mix of friendly competition and high-energy celebration.
Morning Rally at Royal Park Rajapruek
The day began at Royal Park Rajapruek, a massive 80 hectare botanical garden. Teams set off across manicured grounds, royal pavilions, and orchid gardens in a themed Walk Rally exercise that combined navigation with trivia clues.
Water Park Challenge at Tube Trek
In the afternoon, the team headed to Tube Trek Water Park for the week’s biggest surprise. Offsite Thailand reserved a dedicated activity zone within the park, running a structured team competition featuring:
- Timed obstacle course races across floating play zones.
- Relay races through lazy river channels.
- High-speed water slide challenges where managers and engineers competed side-by-side.
The pure, fun of splashing through the course brought out incredible team energy and provided some of the best photos of the whole trip.
Garden BBQ Gala & Awards Night
To wrap up the week, the group gathered outdoors for an evening BBQ Gala Dinner. Fresh local seafood and grilled specialties were served as music played.
The Offsite Thailand team hosted an informal awards ceremony, handing out custom awards for the week’s team challenge champions, photo rally winners, and funniest moments. Between speeches and team toasts, engineers swapped stories and celebrated the fun and games built over five memorable days.
Day 5: Smooth Departures & Lasting Connections
After a final group breakfast at the resort, the engineers packed their bags and checked out. Offsite Thailand coordinated staggered airport transfers via our partners Standard Tour, making sure every group arrived relaxed and well ahead of their departing flights back to Singapore and Indonesia.
